The White House
Located near the beach in Cottesloe this home was ready for a makeover. Children growing up, busy lives and changing needs drove the owners desire for a new look inside and out.

Ginnie created a “wish list” with the busy M.D owner, One child had moved interstate, with the other staying to attend Uni, needing an independent space to study and relax. New demands of this large airy home. Important questions were asked over a glass of wine! What had to go? What wasn’t needed anymore? What could be better? What could be added? What dreams could be fulfilled.
So questions answered, designs completed and mood board prepared it was out with the outdated timber veneers and heavy black granite benchtops and in with a new, light, easy to clean, customised kitchen, with heaps of drawers, a built in wine rack and topped off with Caesarstone Fresh Concrete benchtops and beautiful hand- made subway tiles from Myaree Ceramics.

The Jarrah floorboards were sanded and bleached to give a light new look. Dividing cabinetry between the family and dining rooms was removed to make space for a stainless- steel pebble gas fire to give a relaxing atmosphere whilst warming the room in winter.
Custom window treatments in crisp white linen completed the casual look with a beautiful white pendant light sourced from Melbourne placed above the dining table. What a conversation starter!

From a two -person study to a home office with space to curl up with a good book. Making the most of a gorgeous view out to the garden. New wool Berber carpet completed the look and added softness underfoot. The comfy sofa bed was added to make room for overnight guests.

The family room sofas got a new lease of life in the new parents retreat upstairs teamed with some hand- made cushions. The heavy wall unit replaced by a long white custom bench to display the owners favourite plants. Teamed up with a luxury Armadillo floor rug and a bright painting from a local gallery, a comfy casual look was achieved.

The upstairs en-suite was treated to new travertine floor tiles with large white, floor to ceiling porcelain gloss wall tiles with minimal grout lines for easy cleaning. Capacious drawers replaced tiny cupboards with space for a tall wall hung cabinet besides. A heated towel rail taking care of damp towels and warming the air on a chilly morning. A completely new look without moving any of the plumbing and avoiding a lot of extra cost!

The upstairs master suite looked a little bare, with nowhere to sit and relax and enjoy the tree top view. A new bed was called for with custom made cushions and bolsters in a lovely summery linen from Warwick Fabrics. A mix and match collection used to create depth and interest. The Chinese inspired cabinet was upcycled and finished in a distressed paint and moved to the sitting area. Two sofas previously on the way out were steam cleaned and fitted in perfectly in their new abode. Customised bedside lights in rose gold hang either side of the huge sleigh bed. The old walk in robe was decked out in IKEA Billy bookcases customised to fit the space and create a new library. Why would you ever want to leave the bedroom!

Then it was time for the dream…… turn the old spare room into a luxury dressing room for one! A whimsical place for great grand- mothers evening bag collection, ceramic door knobs found whilst browsing a lovely homewares emporium in Melbourne, teamed with functional, adjustable floor to ceiling open wardrobes.

A new powder room with “a beachy feel “, was required to give the owner’s adult son a loo at the front of the home next to his huge new bedroom and private entrance. An old linen cupboard was stripped out and voila!

The exterior areas of the home were looking tired and dated. The BBQ space was refurbished and the existing deck extended to create a gorgeous new entertaining space.

A Perth landscaping company worked with the owner to create the new outdoor spaces, teamed with custom bench seating and a fresh coat of paint on the existing rock wall. The new colour scheme developed for the interior of the home was continued outside for a relaxed coastal look.
